You Are What You Eat: Food Intolerance and Your Skin

We are what we eat—and if we’re eating junk, it just, might show!

Too much junk food makes your skin look bad. No huge surprise there. But what about some seemingly healthy foods? These too could be causing you skin issues, like acne, rosacea, and wrinkles. How Food Intolerances Show Up On Your Face

Gluten is a common food intolerance. While the list of symptoms is long, the way gluten sensitivity looks on your face is pretty specific. Gluten intolerance causes inflammation in the body, which can cause swelling and redness of the cheeks. It can also throw hormones out of balance, resulting in breakouts around the chin.

Dairy is another common intolerance. If you find dairy foods difficult to digest, your face may show this as puffy skin and bags under the eyes. If you are consuming dairy with added hormones, blemishes could be part of the ballgame too.

Other foods that are best consumed in moderation for a healthy lifestyle are caffeine, sugar, and alcohol. And you guessed it, these can also change the look of your skin.
