My Review

I have to say, it was love at first try with this foundation, even before I worked out my perfect shade. The serum texture is so beautiful and it just melts into the skin like skincare. It is a fragrance-free formula, however, it just smells like skincare which I absolutely love.

The coverage is buildable and very skin perfecting even in the lightest layers, and the finish is radiant and healthy, and for me, never moves over to greasy. It just gives me a gorgeous all over finish with a really bouncy look. Plus, it has a lovely correcting ability that means I can skip concealer if I want.

It wears really nicely on me and I only bother with powder if I have a long day. It leaves my skin feeling super hydrated and calm.

What skin types is it good for?

Shiseido say that the Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation is suitable for all skin types from dry to oily. I have a combination-dehydrated skin and absolutely love it. Personally, I’d say that mature and dry skin types will adore this foundation as it is super hydrating with a flattering radiant finish. Oilier skin types can also use it but may like to powder any areas that tend to shine.

Do you need to powder it?

I think this is entirely down to you and also how much of the foundation you use. I find that I don’t really need powder if I use a light layer of the product. If I build up the coverage, the finish tends to be more glowy, and then it may need a little powder in areas you shine more. I definitely don’t need to set the whole face.

If you get shiny, I’d recommend a tiny bit of powder in those places. For me, that’s a little on my chin and the sides of my nose.

Is it easy to apply and how should you apply it?

This is such an easy foundation to apply and blend. It has a light, liquid-y texture that melts into the skin effortlessly and gives a lovely smooth finish with minimal blending.

As this is a skincare formula, it is actually really lovely to apply this with your fingertips. For fuller coverage, Shiseido recommend using the HASU FUDE Foundation Brush.

What is the Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation coverage like?

This foundation is designed as a light to medium, buildable coverage foundation. I was actually very pleasantly surprised at how much coverage the formula delivers considering the super light texture it has.

One layer gives a light-medium coverage that is very skin-perfecting and beautifully radiant. You can build it up to a good medium in any areas that you want more coverage.

A few times I have tested this, I have skipped concealer and not really missed it. For a light-medium coverage foundation it has great skin-perfecting action.

What is the finish like?

The finish of the Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation is absolutely beautiful. As a constant glow-seeker, I love the radiant finish of this foundation and it is pretty customisable. A light layer gives a soft glow, and you can build the radiance with an extra layer, so it can be as glowy as you like, and you can lightly set any areas you don’t want radiance.

How glowy is it?

As I have said, you can customise the glow with this foundation. A light layer gives skin-perfecting coverage and a soft sheeny glow. You can build up the glow with an extra layer without it feeling too heavy or shiny. It’s so pretty.

Is it good for dry and mature skin types?

This foundation is excellent for dry and mature skins because it is super hydrating and nourishing and gives such a juicy, healthy and youthful finish. The skincare ingredients deliver 24 hour hydration, and help protect skin barrier, plus there’s also niacinamide to smooth and brighten.

Is the Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation good for oily skin types?

As this has a lovely glowy finish, and I know that many people with oilier skin types prefer a more matte finish, it may not be an obvious choice for those with oily skins. Having said that, a light layer gives a very natural looking radiance and you can powder any areas that you are particularly worried about. The formula contains niacinamide which is great for balancing skin and regulating oil production. It is great for all skin types.

Is it long lasting?

I have been so happy with how this foundation wears, especially as it is a skincare, glowy foundation. I have been wearing it without powder mainly and it sits beautifully throughout the day on my skin. I am combination, although my skin is getting drier as I age, and I am prone to dehydration. I find it is super kind on pores and keeps them looking minimised pretty much all the day.

Does it cover melasma?

I don’t have melasma, however, I find this is brilliant at evening out my skin tone and minimising the look of my hyperpigmentation and dark spots. Even a light layer gives a beautiful skin perfecting coverage, and as I said, I have been able to skip concealer when I want a really natural look. It’s great coverage for such a light texture.

Does it cover redness?

I have some redness around my chin and nose, and I find that a light layer of this foundation neutralises it really quickly. It is great for evening everything out and giving a very natural yet perfected look.

How does the Shiseido Revitalessence Skin Glow Foundation compare to the Synchro-Skin Self Refreshing Foundation?

The Synchro-Skin Self Refreshing Foundation is also one of my favourite day to day foundations. I wear shade 310 Silk and I find this gives a similar tone and shade to the Revitalessence in 250 Sand. I find that the latter looks a little light as I apply it, and then as the skincare sinks in, it settles down into a beautiful match.

The Revitalessence gives more glow than Synchro Skin and slightly less coverage, although it is very skin-perfecting as it neutralises redness and hyperpigmentation, and blurs pores and fine lines.

My Shade

For all my shade twins, I know this is a very important part!

I spent quite a bit of time choosing my shade from the three samples I have. The shades are pretty close as you will see from the photos and have slight nuances in undertone. Having tried all three, I have decided that 250 is my best match.

I find that the dry down on this formula is slightly darker than it first appears. This isn’t oxidisation, but more of a settling as the skincare ingredients sink into the skin, so you can probably go a bit lighter than you think.

For reference, my favourite shade in the Shiseido Synchro-Skin Self-Refreshing Foundation is 310 Silk.

Another really good match for reference is NARS Light Reflecting in Deauville. Check that out here.
