On July 19, 2023, the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario (RCDSO), along with the other regulatory colleges representing dental hygienists, dental technologists, and denturists, announced they are rescinding their COVID-19 guidance.

They made this decision after analyzing current trends and evidence of improvement in Ontario, such as Public Health Ontario’s COVID-19 tool which shows COVID case counts declining.

The RCDSO shared, “In light of these changes, our COVID-19 guidance is no longer needed and rescinding our guidance will reduce unnecessary barriers to care.”

Ontario’s announcement follows a number of other regulators across Canada who have moved away from their COVID-specific guidelines, including Alberta, Manitoba and Quebec.

The RCDSO reminds dentists of their obligation to continue to adhere to the College’s standard infection prevention and control requirements.
